...or at least it shouldn't be.
I get emails from ladies who read the magazines and the scrapboards and they bemoan the fact that they aren't as good, can't be as artsy, can't spend the money, don't have the time or can't break into the printed in the mags barrier.
I keep reminding them that magazines were created for the scrapper, not the scrapper for the magazines, same with the hobby itself, it was created to be a fun outlet, a creative outlet, a way to preseverve memories, etc., and we have let it turn into a competition.
If you are feeling burnt out, out of sorts, drowning in a sea of patterned paper and cutting machines or if you are just needing a break, take a break, look around and see what makes you happy. If you want to use die cuts, decorative scissors and paperdolls, go for it, do it and enjoy it! Ten years from now the newest things to hit the shelves tomorrow will be outdated too so what does it matter?
If your goal is to get things done, do simple page, start simply, but simply start. If you want to put photos in a photo album or plastic sleeves, do it. No one is going to knock at your door and see if you are scrapbooking "properly". If you want to store a major amount of photos in those pretty shoe boxes, then do it, my shoeboxed photos survived while my magnetic albums from the 70's ruined. They are the only ones in a hundred years worth of photos that didn't make it.
This is a hobby and it doesn't have to save the world. It might help save our sanity at times to have something fun to do, but not if it gets our dander up and blood pressure rising. Relax and step away from the Undo...or the computer. Have some fun and make some memories. Enjoy life and I bet before you know it you will be having fun again!
