I bet you think this is going to be a Miss America speech ..."and I'd like to stamp out world hunger."
I was pondering hunger Sunday and thought about the different kinds of hunger. People in our country are so hungry, maybe not for lack of physical nourishment via table food, but many are starving just the same. Some are hungry for love and affection while others hunger for power and fame. Some are trying to satisfy their hunger though reality shows such as American Idol and Survior(just to name a few). Some of us would laugh to hear our quest for scrapbook recognition described as hunger, but it can be. We hunger to be known for our work and to be one of the Names or the "Initials". Those Intials roll off our tongues and onto understanding ears as we mention CK, PK, ST, SS and BH&G. We name drop LB, TW, BH, SJ and SJ and call Ali and Donna by their first names.
This is not to say that some amount of hunger is not good for us. We need food for our physical bodies, our mind and our spirit in order to survive and thrive, but we must be careful not to let our priorities get messed up and the spiritual get neglected as we seek recognition or let the physical care and nurturing of our bodies be lost in the shuffle. And at times, we get so busy that we forget the fun part, the sharing of ourselves and our talents. It all works together.
If most of us said we were hungry, we would hear "Well, eat something." But sometimes we hunger without knowing exactly what it is for which we hunger. Scrapbooking can sometimes help us to pause and reflect and determine just what it is that we need. Is it something we need to give or something we need to recieve? We can have a hunger to teach and to share.
Think about it and do your part to end world hunger as it applies to you.
And of course, let's all do our part to feed those whose hunger is as simple as needing a loaf of bread each day. For if you do it unto the least of these...
